What makes this plant special?
Riccia fluitans is a floating plant made popular by the well known aquascaper Takashi Amano. Although it is a floating plant it can be kept submerged as shown in all of the pictures. It can be used as a foreground plant to make a beautiful carpet by attatching it onto small rocks on the aquarium floor where the plants will overlap each other creating a mat. You can also tie Riccia to driftwood with a piece of fishing line to make it resemble a tree. With added CO2 and in good growing conditions small oxygen bubbles form on the leaf tips. New shoots always grow towards the surface and can be kept to your desired shape by trimming it. This moss is great for breeding since it provides valuable coverage for the fry. It is also very hardy making it a great beginner plant.
